New Physical Therapy Law Effective November 1, 2014
The new law allows Physical Therapists to evaluate and treat a patient without a referral for up to 30 days. After 30 days, a referral must be obtained from a “physician or surgeon with unlimited license, or the physician assistant of the person so licensed, and Doctors of Dentistry, Chiropractic and Podiatry, with those referrals being limited to their respective areas of training and practice.” The new law specifically EXCLUDES workers’ compensation claims, meaning they may not be treated without a referral. (Medicare clients will continue to require a physician’s prescription per federal regulations) |
